With yet another weekend with no wind forecast :( 2011 is turning out to be even worse than last year !!!! and as we are away for 11 days from next Thursday I thought it might be our last chance to see some bluebells :) I had a couple of forest in mind after looking online Preistley Wood near Needham Market and Captains Wood near Orford planning to stay in our van overnight there but things did'nt quite go to plan !!!
It started off fine as we pulled into the carpark at Needham Lake (we used to live here and even windsurfed on the lake 25 years ago),it was busy as there was a huge car boot on the opposite field but we managed to get a good spot at the end overlooking the water :)
After a quick cuppa and a read of the papers we set off on the 'Barking and Back Again' walk heading past the Red Lion and quarry before passing Bottys Plantation with Damsden Church in the distance and we were following the green markers and everything was great - the weather could have been sunnier but can't win'um all !!!
Things then went wrong big style as we missed our turning and ended up completely lost in Bonney Wood miles from the bluebells in Priestly Wood. After walking through a large section of private wood we ended uo near Willisham and a local put as back on track after lunch by a pond full of carp which enjoyed our crusts :) I also saw a deer here !!!
Now back on track we walked through the nature reserve in Bonny Wood and onto Priestley to enjoy the bluebells :)
Then it was on past Barking Church and into Needham Market High Street where we stopped and looked at the flat we used to live in,part of a 400 year old coaching Inn.A quick stop at the Co-op for snacks then down to the River Gipping past the mill and onto our van completely knackered at 5.20 !!!!!
We had pie and tea in the van and read the papres when one of my old windsurfing mates with his partner pulled up beside us and we chatted till nearly ten by which time it was too late to go anywhere else so we parked up on the carpark behind the lake for the night - free again :)
